The rapid rise of the Chinese economy cultivated a horizon for new Asian architecture in post-globalisation. This transformation of the socio-economy inevitably demands new social lifestyles of those who inhabit the metropolis. But the accelerated velocity of social transformation and adjustment of people’s realities deviate from each other, which is barely visible from the outside, and there is a huge demand for urban fabric to be installed to reconnect city and people.
MAD in China illustrates phenomenal urban transformation and reality in China through office projects in the last five years and shows new possibilities of architecture in the new digital era. MAD is an architectural design office of three Asian architects (Ma Yansong, Yosuke Hayano and Dang Qun) practising contemporary architecture, urbanism and cultural analysis. Based in Beijing, MAD examines and develops its concept of futurism beyond the boundaries of architecture by exploring sociology, technology and politics in today’s China.
